My first flight on an aircraft / O meu batismo de voo

(The airplane I went on)

Last Saturday I was given the chance to travel through the skies of Braga! I received a first flight thanks to Aero Club de Braga. It was an unique and wonderful opportunity
for me and I want to share this experience with you. Since my father made part of the Air Force and he likes a lot planes and flying, I share that passion and I had this wish of going up there, one day. I like heights, so that helps.

Well, last Saturday I went to Braga's aerodrome and took flight on an Cessna 172 (information given by my father after seeing a picture of the plane), one Aero Club's instruction aircraft. The pilot's name was mr. Rocha and I seated on the back seat of the aircraft that has capacity for two pilots and two more persons behind. With me went also André to do his first flight too.

No passado sábado, foi-me proporcionada uma maravilhosa viagem pelos céus de Braga! Recebi um batismo de voo graças ao Aero Club de Braga. Foi uma oportunidade única e fantástica para mim e quero partilhar convosco a experiência. Como o meu pai já andou na Força Aérea e gosta muito de voar, eu ganhei o bichinho e fiquei com vontade de me meter no ar, um dia. Não tenho vertigens e gosto das alturas, o que ajuda.

Bem, no sábado à tarde lá fui eu até ao aeródromo de Braga e levantei voo num Cessna 172 (informação gentilmente cedidas pelo meu pai quando viu uma foto da aeronave), um dos aviões de instrução do Aero Club. O piloto que me levou pelos ares chama-se sr. Rocha e fui na parte de trás do avião, que tem capacidade para dois pilotos mais duas pessoas. Comigo foi também André, que também foi fazer o seu batismo de voo, tal como eu.

The guys took the lead and I stayed behind, watching everything and taking pics of everything I could. We described few circles around Braga, going up and down through the flight. I saw Braga in a totally diferent way and I didn't imagine I was going to see Braga from the sky so soon in my life. It's so nice to see the city from the sky, you can notice that it's vast and enormous.

The flight went well and it seemed to be too short, I wanted to stay up there a little more. During the flight I had headaches, which I felt instantly that were consequence of the atmosferic pression and when the plane turned around for the first time I felt sick (the plane goes on diagonal in order to turn around, that's why I felt sick). Besides that, the airplane sometimes was bouncing (my father said it's due to air puddles and the contact between cold and hot air masses).

Foram os homens à frente e a lady atrás a captar tudo o que conseguia. Demos umas voltas por Braga, subimos e descemos de altitude pelo meio. Vi Braga através de uma perspectiva totalmente diferente e que não imaginava conseguir ver tão cedo na minha vida. É muito bom ver a cidade através do alto, dá para perceber a sua vastidão e enormidade.

O voo correu bem, sem percalços e pareceu ter passado demasiado depressa, queria ter estado mais tempo lá em cima. Durante o voo, senti dores de cabeça, que notei logo serem eleitos da pressão atmosférica e quando o avião descreveu a primeira curva, fiquei enjoada (o avião vira um bocado na diagonal para virar, deve ter sido por isso). Para além disso, o avião de vez em quando andava aos solavancos (o meu pai informou-me que isso pode ser devido a poças de ar e ao contacto do ar frio com o ar quente).

My father felt sorry for not being able to go with me to fly again and to feel again the sensation of flying and being on top of everyone. I can imagine how much he misses those moments!

O meu pai é que ficou com pena de não ter ido comigo matar saudades dos aviões e de voar e estar lá em cima. Eu imagino as saudades que ele deve ter desses momentos!
